Faridkot

Faridkot was founded by Mokalsi, grandson of Raja Manj, who ruled this territory during the 13 th century and built a fort here. Faridkot, the capital of erstwhile Phulkian state, is famous for its fort and palace having remarkable paintings, mirror - work and frescoes designed all over their walls. Faridkot was under the influence of Indus Valley Civilization.

Introduction

The historic town of Faridkot is named after Baba Sheikh Farid, a famous Sufi saint from Pakpattan, near Multan (now in Pakistan).  He is said to have visited the town, on his way to Hansi and Delhi.

Tourism

Chilla Baba Seikh Farid :  The monument was built in the memory of the great saint Baba Farid.  It is believed that the saint rested here during his visit to the town.  The divine couplets of the Sufi saint are also included in the sacred scriptures of the Sikhs.

Faridkot Fort : The 700 years old fort is famous for its spectacular Sheesh Mahal, the hall of mirrors and wall paintings.  The hall built in Rajasthani style was the prayer room of the ruling family.

FIROZPUR (31 kms.)

the border town north of Faridkot was founded in 14th century by Feroz Tughlaq.  It is famous for the various memorials built in memory of the martyrs.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru Memorial : It is commemorates the three freedom fighters, who were executed by the British at Lahore.  Their bodies were cremated on the banks of river Sutlej, 100 kms. from here.

Sargarhi Memorial :  It was built in the honour of 21 brave soldiers of the 36th Sikh (later 4 Sikh) Regiment, who died fighting to the last man, against a several times greater force of the Local Chiefs, during the battle at Samna Ridge of the Hindukush and Sulaiman Ranges in 1897.  The history of this battle has been included among the 8 narratives of collective bravery, published by UNESCO.  It is also taught in the French Schools.  The re-union of ex-servicemen is held at the historic Sargarhi Gurudwara.  Other places of interest are - guru Harsahai with two temples dedicated to Mata Jalot and Mata Hansewali.

MUKTSAR (35 kms.)

Gurudwara Muktsar :  It marks the site where forty fugitives from the forces of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, re-joined him to participate in the dharam-yudh or the war of dharma, against Mughals and attained salvation.  The town has five more gurudwaras associated with various incidents related to the visit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.  Muktsar is also known for the Maghi Farid held every year in Dec.-Jan., on the Ist day of the Indian month of Magh.

ZIRA (42 kms.)

It lies on the National Highway 15 in Firozpur district.  The town is famous for the ancient Swatamber Jain Temple.
